That's Byron, contemplating the German defense. At this point the Germans have started placing bunkers and units.
Byron is still looking thoughtful in this view from the beaches.
German infantry platoons behind the sea wall and bunkers. Before the British invade, there is a naval bombardment on all defending stands on the table. In this case, very few losses were suffered by the Germans.
Here comes the first wave. When bringing in troops, the allied player decides where they want the landing craft to land. They then roll a dice to see if the landing craft hits the mark, drifts down the beach a little or a lot, or doesn't even make it to shore!
Here is the view from the German positions as the first wave lands.
