Hurricon - September 2010

Over the past few years, we have been attending a number of gaming conventions in our region. They have been such good trips, that I wanted to expand our range and travel to some new gaming conventions as well. This year, for the first time, I attended Hurricon in Orlando, FL. This convention is put on by the HMGS South. They also run Recon in the spring. This was definitely a longer trip for me, but well worth it!

One of the really entertaining things that happened at this year's show was the Flamingo's! Someone, (and I swear it wasn't me!) had discovered the bag of 100 Flamingo's from Gut Bustin' Games, the makers of "Redneck Life". They are used as point counters in their game "Trailer Park Wars". Well, this person thought it would be fun to brighten up things by placing Flamingos into the various games while no one was looking. They showed up all over the place! In Starship troopers, in the Wild West, in Colonial Africa, at the South Pole, with Vikings, giant robots, naval vessels, and just everywhere! But my favorites were the 15mm Order of St. John's Flamingo Knights! I even found a few of the Flamingo's came home with me, mixed in among my boxes!

This really was a great event with a wide variety of games. The folks there were very hospitable, and made sure I felt welcome. This is another event and group of people I would heartily recommend joining for one of these events if you can! Just look at the pictures and see all the fun!
