Bayou Wars New Orleans, LA June 2007


Since we are getting more and more into games and gaming at the store, we decided we needed to go to one of the region's gaming conventions to spread the word. I chose to go to Bayou Wars in New Orleans in June. This was the 15th annual Bayou Wars gaming convention. This year it returned to New Orleans after a brief detour to Vicksburg, MS thanks to Katrina. This was my first gaming convention, and I was impressed! I have heard numbers between 230 and 280 as attendees, vendors, and observers. My thanks to Steve Borona and Thomas Klingmann for helping me out with the show! I had been planning for some time on being a vendor for the show, and received much encouragement from the local gamers who had been to Bayou Wars before. My intention was to make a splash, and let people know we are here. Apparently we were succesful. Reactions were good, sales were good, and the whole atmosphere was great! Everyone at the convention was very friendly, encouraging and supportive. While I understand the attendance was actually down from previous years, I was very impressed by the number and quality of games going on. I was busy enough with the table that I didn't actually get to play in any games, but I tried my best to at least see as many as I could.

If you are interested in gaming, and have not been to a convention yet, I highly recommend it! And Bayou Wars is an excellent choice if you have ANY interest in historical gaming. I'll try to keep any conventions nearby we find out about in our calendar.
